Jornal do Almoço: JA Reporter: journalist traces the origins of Black ancestors in Rio Grande do Sul (2022)

For descendants of enslaved Africans in Brazil, learning about their roots is no easy task. Reporter Fernanda Carvalho, from RBS TV, investigated her own family's origins in the state.

Jornal do Almoço is a long-running regional newscast produced by RBS TV, the Rede Globo affiliate for Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil's southernmost state. This piece is part of a "JA Repórter" segment — a slot for longer-form investigative or human-interest stories — where journalist Fernanda Carvalho researches her own family history to trace her African ancestors who were enslaved in Brazil, reflecting on how difficult genealogical research is for Afro-Brazilian descendants due to the historical erasure of records under slavery.

Challenges Faced by Black Women in the Job Market (2023)

The piece centers on journalist Andressa Lima, 30 and Head of Diversity and Culture at the time, as a portrait of this reality. A graduate since 2018, she describes encountering far more closed doors than opportunities — to the point that she only began getting responses to job applications after removing her photo from her résumé, a stark example of how racial bias operates quietly within hiring processes.

At its core, the article uses Andressa's personal journey to illustrate a broader structural issue: racism in the Brazilian job market, which disproportionately affects Black women, even those who are highly qualified.

Justice Without Revenge (2023)

In the article, published by the newspaper A Tarde in July 2023, journalist and PUCRS master's student Andressa Lima was featured discussing her trip from Porto Alegre to Salvador, Bahia, to attend an academic event with American philosopher and activist Angela Davis.

In her comments to the paper, Andressa highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and the scarcity of prominent Black role models in Rio Grande do Sul, underscoring how meaningful it was for her to see Angela Davis in person.

Vozes: uma reflexão no 20 de Novembro (2020)

As part of Sport Club Internacional's "Vozes" campaign for Black Consciousness Day (November 20), Andressa was interviewed as both a journalist and a former club employee.

The production brought together voices from people who confront racism daily in Brazil, reflecting on Internacional's history as the "Clube do Povo" and its responsibility to take a stand on racial inequality rather than remain neutral.

Andressa's undergraduate thesis, "Now It's the Black Woman in Charge, in Empowerment: Race, Gender, and Representation in the Voices of Black Singers on the TV Show Espelho (Season 12)," received the Outstanding Research Award at Salão UFRGS 2018 (Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul).

Papo com Pesquisa – Ethnography: Environmental Conflicts in the Sinos Valley (2017)

In this episode of Papo com Pesquisa, Andressa discusses a research project focused on recovering the memory of the workers who helped build the city but were left out of its official historiography — figures referred to as "heróis vencidos" ("defeated heroes").

The conversation also explores the city's urban occupations, shedding light on histories and communities that have historically been overlooked in the official record.
